Clean as You Move!

Is a move in the near future for you? Along with adding tasks like packing and hiring movers in the Twin Cities Metro Area to your list, you’ll want to be sure to devote time to cleaning your soon-to-be-former home. This includes cleaning your floors and windows and generally making sure your home is in good condition when you vacate it.

As part of your cleaning process, you’ll want to spend time going through all of your items with an eye toward whether you will truly need them in your new space. You’ll likely come across some, if not many, items that you have outgrown or no longer need.

There are many ways that you can lighten the load once you identify the items that are no longer serving you. Here are some ideas:

  • Throw them away: You may find that you’ve been holding on to some items that have no real value and are not in good enough condition to be used anymore. If an item is truly trash, to the garbage it goes!
  • Donate to a secondhand store: For items that are in good condition but that you are no longer using, a secondhand store can be a great solution. Your old items will have a new life as someone else’s treasures.
  • Host a garage sale: If you have a fair number of items that you don’t need, host a garage sale. This allows others to enjoy the items that you are no longer able to use or interested in keeping, and you’ll earn some money that you can put toward moving costs.
Be sure to advertise your garage sale throughout your neighborhood and wherever else it might make sense to spread the word, and encourage people to show up. If hosting your own sale feels like too much work, perhaps a friend is also interested in parting with some old items. See if you can share the workload and organize a combined sale.
  • Give items away: Perhaps you know a friend or family member who has expressed interest in receiving some of your old clothes, or you know others who could use some of your other items. Giving items away ensures that they will be reused and enjoy a second life.

Cleaning and your new space

While cleaning is a big part of prepping to vacate your old home, don’t overlook the importance of cleaning your new home once you move in.
Though you are likely eager to move into your new home, taking the time and energy to clean as you unpack and set up offers the chance to start off on the right foot when it comes to cleanliness and organization. You and your family will enjoy having a newly cleaned space that’s been cleaned based on your preferences and needs, and you’ll help to get yourselves in the routine of setting a cleaning schedule.
Once you’ve pared down the items you’ll be bringing with you to your new space, it’s time to contact movers in the Twin Cities Metro Area to arrange for their services for your move.
